The Marsan and Armagnac Green Way

Under the impulsion of the Conseil Général (governing body) of the Landes, 50 kms of the old railroad track linking Gabarret to Mont-de-Marsan was turned into a « Green Way ». One city on the way, Cazaubon-Barbotan, is not in the Landes but in the nearby Gers. The goal is to offer walkers, hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders a safe way to discover the Marsan and Armagnac areas: motorized traffic of any kind is prohibited along the Green Way.
Your guide in discovering the wonders of the Armagnac and Marsan regions is Lucien, an early 20th century schoolboy who takes the train from Gabarret to Mont-de-Marsan to attend high school there. Along the way, illustrated panels tell the history and describe the customs of the places you go through. Writer, Jérôme Chibrac, water-colorist Sylvie Bernadet, and historian Jeanne-Marie Fritz imagined Lucien’s story from local eyewitness accounts.
